Another Planned Permanent Living Arrangement (APPLA) Subcommittee
In November of 2016, the Strengthening Families Act Committee created a subcommittee to examine the Another Planned Permanent Living Arrangment (APPLA). This subcommittee focuses on how youth transition from care, especially those with Independent Living as their permanency goal. The APPLA subcommittee outlined three goals in their 2017 report:
- Include more youth voice in determining and achieving permanency goals.
- Take a team approach to determining and achieving permanency goals.
- Promote best practices for implementation of APPLA provisions in the State and Federal Strengthening Families Act.
This group continues to meet monthly with the current focus areas being to increase awareness of the Strengthening Families Act Advisor/Advocate and identify ways to support the pregnant and parenting child welfare populations as they transition to independent living.
